How Do I Import Videos From My Sony Dvd610 Camcorder Into My Macbook?

The easiest way would be to use an external drawer loading DVD drive – like one from LaCie. You already know not to put a 8cm disc in the slot loading DVD drive built-in to that laptop. With an external drawer loader, you can rip the video from the disc using a ripper like HandBrakehttp://handbrake.fr/
and get the video into a format that is useful to iMovie (MP4 or MOV).
Warning: VOB compressed video from consumer-grade camcorders is not very good quality.
