Nowadays most camcoder tapes can be downloaded to PC . Most have USB cables that can be connected directly to your PC and the software needed . In Sony camcorders it is better to use a Firewire but for that you need a firewire slot in your PC or laptop and a cable to connect Cam to PC which can be found in most PC shops,in exchange you get better quality . It is quite easy . For capture software i wouldn’t recomend Movie Maker if you want superb quality output , when using movie maker i noticed that the quality on a DVD playback wasnt as good as on a normal video tape , or when playback directly from camcorder. I am trying out a new capture and video editing software from Sony ( Vegas Movie Studio 9.0 ) i downloaded it 2 days ago ( the 30 day free trial version ) and i got superb playback quality . You might want to try that out .

It is a very tedious process of importing your camcorder tape into “editable format”. I have a camcorder and i can be considered as a “victim”. I can only watch the tape on my camcorder or TV but not on my computer! I sought for help and the technical guy told me that i need to have a firewire first to connect to my computer. (beware!! a lot of computers dont have firewire port, except Apple Mac). After you got the firewire, you need to have a software. Windows Movie Maker cannot do anything as it does not support direct camcorder import. So you need a software which can do this, i recommend you Apple iMovie (if u have a Mac), or Adobe Premiere Pro (this is better), there are still other softwares for you to go search. The software should not be a problem as you can download the trials from their respective websites. Next, after you got the software, you can just import them (usually takes a very loooong time) and save them (the files usually are very LARGE, sometimes can take up 40GB in my case). After that, you can edit it in whatever ways. Some video editing softwares that i recommend are: Sony Vegas, Ulead Studio etc. Thats all. It worked for me.

yes its possible but your going to have to up grade your computer so it has a tv in port.
I wouldn’t recommend it personally as you have to watch everything you recorded as you put it in your computer. time wise its not cost efficient.
My friend had that kinda a setup in his room and he’d be in there all day putting it on and editing. if you can cut the time do so.
If its ending up on a computer any way the picture quality outcome will be the same whether you use tape or not.
    hope this helps

yes, ensure that the camcorder your buying has a firewire port,{iee1394},of course you’ll need a firewire{iee1394} port on your comp,if comp. does’nt have a firewire port, you can get a pci card with them on,if you get a camcorder with a a/v{yellow} port then you’ll need a product like ‘dazzle’ or dvdxpress from pc world, the easiest way is to get a tv/dvd recorder setup, good luck!

There might be other ways of doing this but this is the way i put my videos on my computer.
    bought one of thesehttp://www.itreviews.co.uk/hardware/h559…
It connects to your tv and computer and transfers anything that is playing on your tv. You can also record straight from tv to computer.
